ormer West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan has skipped another questioning session at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in a graft investigation surrounding the Meikarta mega development project in Bekasi, West Java.
Investigators had issued a summons for Ahmad to testify as a witness against suspended Bekasi regent Neneng Hasanah Yasin, who is a suspect in the case, in questioning scheduled for Monday.
“The witness [Ahmad], however, didn’t come to fulfill the summons. He also didn’t send any letter explaining his absence during today’s questioning session,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said on Monday.
It was the second time that Ahmad failed to attend a KPK questioning in the Meikarta case. Previously, Ahmad did not show up to a questioning on Dec. 20. He claimed he was not informed of the first summons.
Febri said investigators considered it important to question Ahmad about the details of his role as a governor at the time of the botched project, including the process in which he allegedly issued a recommendation for the project.
According to the prosecutors’ indictment letter against Lippo Group operational director Billy Sindoro, Ahmad issued a recommendation letter supporting the Meikarta construction project. Through the latter, the then-governor delegated the authority on issuing all necessary recommendations to a local permit agency.
In addition to Ahmad, the Home Ministry’s regional autonomy director general, Soni Sumarsono, also skipped a questioning as a witness against another suspect, Bekasi Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency head Jamaludin.
Febri said Soni had, however, sent a letter requesting that the questioning be rescheduled for Thursday.
