Bad weather and a weak foundation reportedly caused the collapse.
Eight people were trapped for 40 minutes on Tuesday evening when a house collapsed in West Jakarta.
Bad weather and a weak foundation reportedly caused the collapse of the 32-square-meter house on Jl. Kebon Jeruk in Tamansari, where 10 people lived. The property's owner was identified as Nurabdulah, 60.
"The fragile front of the house was hit by strong wind and heavy rain, which caused the structure's foundation to shift," West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency head Rompis Romlih said on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Two of the house's occupants were attempting to repair the foundation when the structure collapsed. Some of the debris hit a car parked in front of the house.
All entrances were sealed off when the house collapsed, trapping the eight other occupants, said Rompis. The two people working on the foundation escaped unharmed.
Thirty-seven Fire and Rescue officers were deployed to the scene, and successfully rescued the eight trapped people from among the ruins.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. (ars)
