Sujeet Ramgir’s fiver gives Rebels CC second win of season

The New Year started off with a bang in the GMIS JCA league with five games being played over a wet weekend.

Sujeet Ramgir’s brilliant five-wicket haul was the highlight of the Rebels fighting win. JCA veteran Cameron Knox rolled back the years with some spanking cut-shots to get the Rebels off to a good start. After drinks, Kartik Kapoor struck with 2 crucial wickets and fatigue got the better of Cameron, sparking a familiar Rebels middle order collapse as Iruthayaraj continued his fine form with the ball. A 20 run stand for the last wicket between Suresh and Alfhariz restored some momentum for the Rebels, but a score of 126 looked well below par.

Sujeet Ramgir was all charged up as he got rid of both the openers and had the dangerous Usman Muhammad out fending a steep-climber to a brilliant catch by Cameron. Kartik Kapoor stitched together a fightback with help from Mubeen, but Sujeet’s second spell sealed the game for the Rebels.

Yadavas Chairos Tigers took on Senayan CC in a top of the table clash on Saturday. The Tigers put on a batting masterclass that exemplified the value of partnerships. Anjar Tadarus got them off to a breezy start and Gamantika’s red-hot form continued as he played anchor in three good partnerships. A late blitz of 40 in just 15 balls by Elvidus Ikun helped the Tigers reach a good score of 250 in their 35 overs. Maneesh Dubey was the pick of the bowlers for Senayan.

Senayan’s reply started off disastrously as they lost both their openers very early but Rakesh Gowda and Amrithanand Mandook started rebuilding the reply until Anjar had Amrith nicked behind. Akbar Tarisno then struck with three crucial wickets and despite a fighting 50 by Syed Kabir, Senayan ended up being bowled out 79 runs short.

Yadavas Chairos Tigers took on Jaguar CC in their second game of the week on Sunday and were once again sent in to bat. The Tigers top order got started but couldn’t make it count as they moved to 60 for 3 after 8 overs. The Jaguars had a chance to close it out, but they were up against a fabulous batting display by the rapidly maturing duo of Muhaddis and Ramdoni. They got together for an unbeaten 120 run stand in just 12 overs to take the Tigers to a formidable 180 for 3 in 20 overs.

Gede Darma Arta struck once again in his first over with the wicket of the dangerous Hanan Khalid. The Sharma duo of Nitin and Abhay countered until Anjar accounted for both of them. Elvidus Ikun, the new rising star from Kalimantan, who has been having a fabulous season so far, then ripped open the Jaguar middle claiming 4 wickets for just 8 runs to give his team a massive 82 run win.

The Jakarta Barbarians comfortably beat both the weather and a struggling Metro Indians in the 4th game of the week at Cibubur. Sakthi Narayanan started briskly for the Metro Indians but Vivek Singh accounted for him and his wicket, starting a procession of wickets as Mohib Hussaini and Ben Burgess got into the act. A fighting knock by Sabu Joy helped Metro recover but they still could only manage 150.

The Jakarta Barbarians started poorly and were 28 for 2 in 8 overs, but then a fantastic 123 run unbeaten stand between Ben Burgess and Riaz Hyder ensured the Barbarians won with 8 wickets in hand.

Heavy rain meant that the game between Ceylon CC and Indorama CC had to be abandoned after Ceylon, helped by a fabulous 55 by birthday boy Baba Sivasankaran and 44 from Rajeev Kumar had notched up a strong 198 runs in their first innings.
