Greater Jakarta: Anies takes part in ‘#10YearChallenge’

J

akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has participated in #10YearChallenge, a viral trend that has recently taken social media by storm.

The challenge invites participants to publicly walk down memory lane by posting a picture of themselves from 2019 juxtaposed with one from a decade ago.

Anies uploaded pictures of himself from 2009 and 2019 posing with his son, Ismail Hakim Baswedan, to his official Instagram account @aniesbaswedan on Thursday morning.

The 2009 picture shows Anies embracing Ismail as a toddler, both smiling broadly. Anies is sporting what looks like a black, short-sleeved T-shirt — a distinct contrast to the long-sleeved batik shirts he often wears as governor — and a black watch on his left wrist.

His upload garnered more than 75,000 likes and 1,000 comments two hours after he posted it.

Instagram user @ineukaniahamsana praised Anies for wearing the same watch a decade later: “It seems like Anies is not the consumerist type, as proven by the same watch you have been wearing from 10 years ago, even if you can collect any watch you want to today. You have set an example for others.”

Meanwhile, @fauzyfatturahman recalled Anies’ career as the then-rector of Paramadina University, commenting, “In 2009, you were still a presidential election [debate] panelist, right?”

Anies was a moderator of the 2009 presidential debates between incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, incumbent vice president Jusuf Kalla and Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Another user, @dyksatrio, commented: “Assalamualaikum [‘Peace be unto you’] to the leader of our ummah [community].”
