Indonesia is stepping up its game in running national soccer leagues by learning from the one of the best as it has set up a partnership with Spain’s top-tier La Liga.

The partnership is based on a three-year deal.

Indonesian soccer league operator PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) CEO Risha Adi Widjaya and La Liga’s managing director for Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea and Australasia, Ivan Codina, signed the memorandum of understanding in Jakarta on Wednesday, the LIB said in a statement.

The agreement includes promoting the brands of La Liga and LIB, as well as hosting future conferences that involve experts in discussing sports management, marketing, financial management, administration, venue security, match management and international branding.

“We hope we can learn from La Liga how to make the national leagues better,” Risha said after the signing as quoted by Antara.

La Liga is to also share its strategy for eradicating match fixing from the league.

Codina said the Spanish league agreed to work with LIB because Indonesia was the main market in Southeast Asia. He said La Liga would also help Indonesia to develop women’s soccer.
