T

he Bekasi Transportation Agency is barring public transportation providers from picking up passengers at the main gate of the Bekasi Station.

The measure was taken to disentangle the congestion that often occurs in front of the station because of the numbers of public vehicles like angkot (public minivans) and ojek (motorcycle taxis) blocking the road while waiting for passengers.

The agency’s head of operations, Bambang Putra, suggested that commuter train passengers disembarking at Bekasi Station could meet their online ojek drivers or other modes of public transportation outside the station's west gate on Jl. Pusdiklat.

According to the policy, which came into force on Monday, the online ojek and angkot that previously arrived from Jl. Juanda and headed to Jl. Perjuangan, are now being diverted to Jl. Pusdiklat.

The public vehicles are no longer allowed to wait for and pick up passengers in front of the station – they can only drop off passengers there.

“They can’t stay on Jl. Perjuangan for too long,” Bambang said as quoted by kompas.com.

“We’ve introduced the new policy. We’ve put up signs. We wanted to make commuter train passengers exit the station not only through the gate on Jl. Perjuangan, but also the one on Jl. Pusdiklat,” he added.

The agency has deployed 50 officers daily to enforce the policy. (vla)
