A

tornado damaged dozens of shophouses and toppled electricity poles in Jejalen Jaya village in Bekasi regency, West Java, on Tuesday.

Tambun Police chief Comr. Rahmad Sujatmiko said the tornado caused no casualties, but left behind Rp 100 million (US$7.03 million) worth of material losses. “We’re still cleaning up the area,” he said on Tuesday afternoon as quoted by tempo.co.

The head of a hamlet in Jejalen Jaya village, Mbeng, said that according to his team’s investigation, 14 kiosks were severely damaged by the whirlwind.

A food stall owner named Sofiana who sells bakso (meatball soup) said the wind struck at about 12 p.m. during heavy rain. The tornado tore off the roofs of some buildings along Jl. Raya Jejalen Jaya in front of the Darussalam Residency housing complex.

“My stall almost collapsed. Many staple food, cooked food stalls and kiosks were destroyed,” she added.
