Actress Carissa Perusset had experienced difficulty speaking Indonesian despite being born and raised in the country.
As quoted by kompas.com, Carissa said she rarely spoke Indonesian because she went to an international school.
Due to Carissa’s seemingly limited access to Indonesian-speaking people outside her school, she found it challenging when she took up a role in Antologi Rasa (Taste Anthology), adapted from a novel of the same name written by Ika Natassa.
“I needed about one year to learn Indonesian,” she said.
Carissa added that she also needed to overcome other challenges to portray her character, such as learning to walk in heels and to get comfortable in front of the camera.
Despite those challenges, Carissa said there was one quality in her character that she found relatable.
“The character is also a shopaholic [like me],” she said.
