Kirubasankar sets JCA T20 record for highest individual score

It was an exciting weekend for the GMIS JCA cricket league with a record-breaking ton and a superb seven-wicket haul as the main highlights. The week also saw last year’s winner WISCI suffer its first defeat of the season.

National team player Kirubasankar regained his form last week with an unbeaten 63 and he had another opportunity to shine this week when his side, the Metro Indians, played WPP India XI in a T20 game.

The Metro Indians chose to bat first and Kirubasankar made his presence felt. He started with a huge six in the first over before putting on the pressure, scoring 16 runs in the third over. Kirubasankar spared no bowler throughout the match other than Dhiraj Nagpal. The end of the 20th over brought much needed relief for the WPP bowlers and also the highest ever individual score in JCA T20 history. The Metro Indians finished on 186 for 1 with Kirubasankar having 141 of those runs.

WPP India XI had the batting power to chase down this total but lost their openers relatively early in the chase with Sakthi accounting for the dangerous Pallav Malhotra. Govind Sodani and Vinayak Kurtkoti fought back with a 73-run stand, but Kirubasankar returned with the ball this time to break the stand and any hopes of WPP chasing down the target.

Meanwhile, the game between the Mavecrics and Emerio CC saw action of a totally different kind with Nimesh Shah getting a seven-wicket haul to help the Mavecrics rout Emerio. Emerio decided to put the Mavecrics in to bat and Aryan Khan quickly got two wickets to justify his captain’s decision. Keyur Moradia and Padmakar Surve started pushing back but Vineet Kumar broke the partnership with quick strikes and only with some late order resistance from Shaswat and Nimesh were the Mavecrics able to post 134 runs.

Emerio responded poorly, as Nimesh Shah struck in virtually every over of his. The team was skittled out for just 51 runs and only Raunak Kapoor got into double figures.

Jaguar CC caused the biggest upset of this season thus far by handing the current champion WISCI its first defeat.

WISCI were off to a slow start, managing only 20 in their four overs as Jagdeep Singh bowled tight lines. A big knock from Naresh Gupta was needed, but Abhay Sharma got rid of him early and then accounted for Suhail Modak as well.

Vinayak Sasitharan saw a run out, and a superb two-wicket over from Jagdeep Singh shut down WISCI, which was eventually bowled out for 95 runs.

Jaguar CC saw a poor start, chasing a low score and struggling at 25 for 3 after 10 overs. When Saulat Abbas entered, it changed the course of the game as he counterattacked with an unbeaten 55 to take his side home for a memorable win.

Ceylon CC routed Rebels CC in their 35-over game on Saturday. Rebels CC bowling was wayward with them conceding 30 wides, but when their bowlers bowled on the stumps, they encountered a fired-up Dihan Silva. He struck a 29 ball to get Ceylon off to a flyer and at his departure, Mufasil and Justin Mathew took up the striking role. The experienced Gaurav Kapoor kept one end up with a sheet-anchor knock. Alfhariz and Owais were the only Rebels bowlers to withstand the Ceylon assault.

A chase of 257 was always going to be difficult and Rebels were soon 11 for 2. However, a fighting 82-run partnership between Julang and Sujeet Ramgir renewed their hopes but both fell in the space of one over. Despite a good fight by Vivek Elankannan, the Rebels could only manage 176 runs, falling short by 80.
