span>Youth and Sports Ministry spokesperson Gatot S. Dewa Broto has said that the new chief of the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) must have at least five years of experience in the soccer industry.
Gatot delivered the statement during his visit to Palembang, West Sumatra, on Thursday, adding that the new head must be committed to taking care of the country’s soccer by devoting time to properly handling the organization despite whatever other duties they might have outside of the sport.
“Don’t be like Eddy [Rahmayadi]. He works in Medan [North Sumatra] while the PSSI’s office is in Jakarta,” he said, referring to the former chief, who lives in Medan as North Sumatra’s governor.
Gatot further said that his ministry would not intervene in the association’s extraordinary meeting, which is set to be held in May.
With the issuance of Presidential Instruction No. 3/2019 on developing the country’s soccer, he explained that it was the government’s job to engage with the PSSI.
The PSSI’s upcoming extraordinary meeting has two main items on the agenda: elect a new chief and form selection and appeal selection committees.
Business mogul and former Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee head Erick Thohir has been labeled by many parties as a potential successor to Eddy.
