akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has inaugurated 95 school buildings and two boarding schools, as well as the new Jakarta Education Agency office, which cost a total of Rp 2.05 trillion (US$ 143 million)

The budget for the building development and revitalization was taken from the 2018 city budget comprising of Rp 1.82 trillion (US$ 127 million) for the school and boarding school buildings and Rp 231.99 billion for the education agency office.

“We inaugurated 98 buildings that underwent big renovations, including buildings for elementary, junior high, high school, special need schools and community learning center,” he said in the ceremony in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Friday as reported by tempo.co.

Out of the 95 schools, six were part of pilot projects for disabled students and the environment. The six schools are SMP 59 state junior high school in Central Jakarta, SD Lagoa 01/02/05 state elementary school in North Jakarta, SD Cengkareng Baret 07/08 state elementary school in West Jakarta, SD Pondok Labu 01/05 state elementary school in South Jakarta, SD Susukan 09 state elementary school in East Jakarta and SD Untung Jawa Island 01 state elementary school in Thousand Islands regency.

The schools feature ramps and restrooms for students with disabilities.

“The schools are designed to be disabled-friendly,” Anies said. (rin)
