T

he latest polls before the presidential election show Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto catching up to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, but the former Jakarta governor remains in a commanding lead.

A survey conducted by Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting (SMRC) between April 5 and 8 put Jokowi’s electability rate at 56.8 percent and Prabowo’s at 37 percent, with the former general gaining 5.2 percentage points since SMRC’s previous March poll.

Jokowi, however, maintained a healthy double-digit lead of 19.8 percentage points.

Polls released by Charta Politika, Poltracking and Indo Barometer on Saturday showed similar results, with Jokowi's lead at 16.9, 13.6 and 19.8 percentage points, respectively.

Undecided voters in all four polls were in single digits, with more and more voters making up their mind in the last days leading up to the election.
