Australia is looking forward to strengthening its relationship with Indonesia in light of the latter's success in holding the presidential and legislative elections, the Australian foreign minister stated on Saturday.
Through her Twitter account @MarisePayne, she congratulated Indonesia for running the presidential and legislative elections.
“Congratulations to Indonesia on the historic running of its presidential and legislative elections. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our Australia - Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership,” Marise tweeted on her account on Saturday. The tweet was translated into Indonesian by Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Gary Quinlan on the same day.
The Indonesian general election, which this year was held on April 17, is the world's biggest one-day election. Over 190 million Indonesians were estimated to have cast their votes at over 800,000 polling stations across the country.
Early vote count results indicate that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is likely to win the election.
