T

he Constitutional Court is set to deliver its ruling on the presidential election dispute on Thursday, in a final decision that is expected to end the drama surrounding incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s reelection victory.

The nine justices of the court convened in a meeting on Monday to discuss the petition filed by losing candidate Prabowo Subianto's camp, which had accused the General Elections Commission (KPU) of committing “structured, systematic and massive” fraud in Jokowi’s favor during the election.

Constitutional Court spokesperson Fajar Laksono said the justices decided on the meeting to announce their decision on Thursday, a day earlier than the initial plan on Friday, which was the deadline of delivering the ruling.

“The panel of justices feel that they are ready to read the ruling on [Thursday],” Fajar said on Monday.

The court had sent letters to notify the Prabowo camp, the KPU as well as the Jokowi ticket regarding the announcement, he said, adding that the nine justices would continue their deliberation until Wednesday.

The Prabowo ticket challenged the KPU’s vote tally — which placed Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin as the winner with 55.5 percent of the vote compared to Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno’s 44.5 percent — at the court on May 24, in its last-ditch effort to overturn the presidential election results.

The course of hearings last week saw the Prabowo camp present dozens of witnesses and experts to testify in their favor before the bench.
