Three people died in a traffic accident involving a 32,000-liter fuel truck and a private car in East Jakarta on Sunday.
32,000-liter fuel truck belonging to state-owned energy company PT Pertamina caught fire on the Wiyoto Wiyono toll road, Pulogadung, East Jakarta on Sunday, killing three people.
The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency received a report of a fire at 1:45 a.m. head of East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency Gatot Sulaiman said in a statement on Sunday.
“Firefighters began extinguishing the fire at 1:55 a.m. and by 3:10 a.m. it was completely extinguished,” said Gatot.
The agency deployed 12 firetrucks and a total of 48 firefighters to extinguish the massive fire.
The accident occurred when the fuel truck hit the toll road separator. “The head of the truck detached from its body and fell on the non-toll road in front of Rawamangun toll gate,” head of the traffic accident unit at the East Jakarta Police Comr. Agus said as quoted by tempo.co.
The truck driver Isep Abdurohman, 35, and his assistant Ahmat Wagiyanyo, 23 died on the spot.
Following the incident, a car hit the body of the truck on the toll road causing a massive fire.
The police have yet to identify the car driver. (tru)
