Commuter line operator procures more trains to serve ever-growing number of passengers

n its bid to improve services train operator PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) has revealed that it has purchased a total of 192 new cars, 64 of which have been received and are operating in Greater Jakarta.
The remaining 128 units will arrive in two batches – the first batch will be in the second half of 2019 and the other batch in the first half of 2020.
In a press statement on Monday, KCI spokesperson Anne Purba said the company had 1,020 cars as of July this year.
“The new car procurement is part of our attempts to upgrade our fleet and increase our capacity. With the additional trains, we will be able to operate more 10-car [SF10] and 12-car [SF12] trains,” Anne said.
In the beginning of 2019, KCI operated 20 SF12 trains and 43 SF10 trains. As of June, four SF12 trains were added to its daily service.
The procurement, Anne added, was aimed at supporting the service, which has seen a rising number of passengers every year.
In 2017 the company served 315.811 million passengers and 336.348 million passengers in 2018, a 6.5 percent increase.

KCI, which operates under state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia, currently has 80 stations across Greater Jakarta with a total of 413.5 kilometers of track.
Telaga Murni Station, a new stop on the Jakarta Kota-Cikarang line was opened and started its trial run in June.
