The Indonesian Navy has arrested a Taiwan-flagged fishing vessel, the Hai Chien Hsing 20, over alleged conducting illegal, unreported, unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in Indonesia’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Natuna Sea.

The multirole light frigate KRI Usman Harun 359 detected a foreign contact on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. while conducting Operations Siaga Segara-21, the First Fleet Command (Koarmada I) said in a release received by The Jakarta Post on Sunday.

KRI Usman Harun 359 commanding officer Col. Binsar Alfred Syaiful Sitorus ordered the warship to approach the target. Realizing that the warship was getting closer, the Taiwanese fishing vessel tried to escape by speeding northward.
