alaysia's prime minister says he is serious about good governance and his administration will "fully cooperate" with the US Department of Justice in its probe into a US$3.5 billion scandal into a Malaysian state fund.

Najib was speaking to reporters on Thursday, a day after the US Justice Department said it has initiated action to seize more than $1 billion of the stolen money that was allegedly used to buy assets in the US by people close to Najib.

Asked for his comments, Najib said: "Allow the process to take its course but I want to say categorically that we are serious about good governance."

He said he viewed the US initiative seriously and that his government will "fully cooperate."
