Lake Toba is slated to welcome runners for the Toba Cross Run (TCR) 2017 event on October 28.

The running event itself was officiated as an international event by the tourism minister Arief Yahya back in March 21 and is part of Toba International Detour 2017 by Horas Halak Hita Community.

“We’ve designed Toba Cross Run 2017 in the best way possible so that participants can enjoy the beauty of Toba hills and Lake,” said the event’s committee head, Lexi Rohi.

Participants will run past the three regencies located around Toba namely Humbang Hasundutan, Toba Samosir and North Tapanuli.

“Before the event begins, participants will camp out on the field of the oldest church in Balige. The field’s area is around 1.5 hectares while the church building itself is made of wood and has a classic design, campers can enjoy the cool breeze of air coming from the hills at Sipinsur Park,” added Lexi.

Toba Cross Run is categorized as ultra because it’s above the standard of a marathon run which is 42.2 kilometers. The event is divided into three long-distance categories. The first one is 55 kilometers where runners will pass Balige, Toba Samosir, Sipinsur Park and Humbang Hasundutan.

The next category is 25 kilometers encompassing Silangit Airport, North Tapanuli, Sipinsur Park and Humbang Hasundutan.

The last category is five kilometers consisting of Sipinsur Park and Humbang Hasandutan route.

“Sipinsur Park is located around seven kilometers from the edge of Lake Toba. The height of the park is 1,400 meters above sea level and from here people can see the clear blue water of Lake Toba that is adorned with pine trees and the view of Samosir Island,” Lexi said.

The registration fee for this competition starts from Rp 250,000 ($18.83) to Rp 750,000 ($56.48) with the total prize of 82 million rupiahs.

Each participant will get a BIB number, participation medal, camping facilities for two nights and shuttle bus to three locations. The registration opens on October 5, participants can register online via www.tobacrossrun.com. (asw)
