rom Nov. 5 - 11, Pesisir Paloh in West Kalimantan is slated to hold the Pesisir Paloh Festival 2017. The exact location of this event will be at Temajuk Village, Paloh District, Sambas regency.
“The month of November will be the peak of the turtle-nesting season. It will be celebrated with plenty of people’s parties to show gratitude for an abundance of turtle eggs,” said Sambas regent H Atbah Romin Suhaili.
The festival itself was first held in 2011, and for this year it will highlight the theme “Save the Turtles in National Border.”
Apart from being known as the home of turtles, Pesisir Paloh is also famous for its traditional values such as Besiak ritual, Antar Ajung ceremony and Ngamping tradition. The latter is a form of gratitude from the locals for crop abundance and praying for the next harvest season.
The festival will feature activities such as the crowning event of Penyu Paloh Ambassador 2017, photo and local products exhibition, socialization of the development of tourist village Temajuk, movie screening, camping, Sapta Pesona beach cleanup, turtle monitoring field trip, baby turtle release and seed-planting.

The regional administration will also use this event to hold activities such as mass circumcision and general checkup, E-KTP and temporary birth certificate recordings, family card renewal, birth certificate application, fisherman boat sign of record, raising awareness of the fisherman insurance program and fisherman card.
Paloh district is directly adjacent to Malaysia that is located on the west side of the northern part of Kalimantan island. The area has a beach that stretches as far as 63 kilometers.
Moreover, Paloh is the habitat of four out of seven different turtle species in the world namely green sea turtle, flatback sea turtle, loggerhead sea turtle and leatherback sea turtle. (asw)
