est Sumatra is set to host two exciting events this November, namely Sawahlunto International Music Festival (SIMFest) 2017 slated on Nov. 4-5 and Tour de Singakarak on Nov. 18-26.

SIMFest is an annual music show that combines modern, contemporary and ethnic compositions. Held for the eight time, it boasts "Fullmoon Heritage Wonderland" as this year's theme.

Slated at the Triangle Field in Sawahlunto where visitors will get a clear view of the full moon, the event will feature performances from local and international musicians, such as Oktivi Ansambel Music, Lalang, Daood Debu, Sisir Tanah, Hototoska, Adien Lopez, The Cigarman Blues, Jesse Lesse, On and On, Diskopantera and Sawahlunto New Ansamble.

“This event aims to become a platform for communication and collaboration between continents, to promote the Coal Mine City that is about become the World Heritage City and to increase appreciation towards the country’s contemporary ethnic music,” said Tourism Ministry's head of cultural promotion, Wawan Gunawan.

“It will also host an educational music workshop from musician Daood Deby. Daood will talk about Turkish darbuka [goblet drum] and flamenco percussion from Spain,” he added.

Visitors of SIMFes will also have the opportunity to participate in the Zero Waste program initiated by middle school students and joined by several communities.

“Ever since it was first held in 2010, so many international musicians have performed on the SIMFes stage, we’ve had musicians from Singelal, Abijan, Mexico, Hawaii, Mongolia, Taiwan Malaysia and Indonesia. Congratulations and best of luck to SIMFest 2017,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.‎ (kes)
