Berto started his career in 1998 as a freelance photographer for Indonesian Observer, The Straits Times, and China Daily. His experience on covering national-scaled conflicts and disasters brought him to be the head of visual at The Jakarta Post and Tirto.id for more than 22 years. At the moment, he is a lecturer at Multimedia Nusantara University. He teaches several classes such as photography, videography, photojournalism, visual communication literation, and documenter journalism. Aside of that, he is also the supervisor program for TVRI World
