Another five years have passed, and once again Indonesia is gearing up for a major decision that will shape how the nation moves forward.
To understand where we are going next, we need to remember where we came from, and our event aims to provide an opportunity for audiences to contemplate Indonesia’s journey.
“Portraits of a Nation: Indonesia’s Journey of Change and Resilience” will feature curated photos published in The Jakarta Post over the past 40 years, presenting them in a mix of both physical and digital media.
By connecting with photojournalists’ views of events, the audience may consider ideas about the past and draw lessons for the future on the eve of the 2024 presidential election.
For a more immersive experience, exhibition curator Rony Zakaria will guide visitors through The Jakarta Post’s legacy of reporting, touching on the significant cultural and political aspects throughout the years.
The Jakarta Post’s Democracy Dialogue will spotlight the state of democracy in Southeast Asia, covering issues such as economic development and the role of a free press in sustaining a region where hundreds of millions make their voices heard every day.
With a keynote speech by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto, the forum will invite a number of key figures from the region, including Rappler cofounder and Nobel Prize winner Maria Ressa and President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta.
