Honda to start selling world's first level-3 autonomous car on Friday
It is the world's first vehicle sold in the market which allows the driver to engage in different tasks such as reading and watching TV behind the wheel in certain conditions such as when the car is in congested traffic on expressways, the Japanese transport ministry said.

onda Motor said Thursday it will start selling from Friday the revamped Legend sedan equipped with the "level-3" autonomous technology.
It is the world's first vehicle sold in the market which allows the driver to engage in different tasks such as reading and watching TV behind the wheel in certain conditions such as when the car is in congested traffic on expressways, the Japanese transport ministry said.
Honda plans to sell 100 units on lease with a package of maintenance services with a suggested retail price of 11 million yen ($103,000).
The decision would represent a significant step towards its goal of being the first company to mass produce a car with level 3 technology.
Reuters reported that the Legend’s “Traffic Jam Pilot” system can control acceleration, braking and steering under certain conditions.
Global automakers and tech companies, including Google parent Alphabet’s Waymo and Tesla, have been investing heavily in autonomous driving.
Yet even as the technology advances, regulations on autonomous driving differ from country to country. Audi unveiled an A8 sedan with level 3 technology in 2017 but regulatory hurdles have prevented it from being widely introduced.
