owadays, the lives of Indonesians are inseparable from digital advancements and the use of the internet to support daily activities. The internet is a crucial piece of infrastructure in the digital transformation. It is undeniable that widespread internet facilities and networks are essential for accessing information. The need for reliable and high-speed internet must be supported by good infrastructure, which includes optical fiber.
FiberStar, as one of the providers of fiber-optic infrastructure, is committed to supporting the growth of fiber-optic networks in Indonesia, with its advantages including a neutral, high-speed, stable network with high-level security and strategic national coverage for urban and rural areas.
By the end of 2023, FiberStar achieved 1.9 million homepasses spread across 135 cities and 17 provinces, including Sumatra, Java, Bali, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi. According to Irawan Delfi, the network development division head of FiberStar, to reach more areas in Indonesia, FiberStar aims to add 1 million homepasses in 2024, bringing the total homepasses to 2.8 million by the end of 2024.
In addition to improving network reliability and backbone network modernization, Irawan Delfi also mentioned that in 2023, FiberStar completed the modernization and integration of the Java-Bali backbone network, both on land and through undersea cables from Jakarta to Surabaya using ASON technology from Huawei. The integration of land and undersea cable networks allows the network to recover intelligently in case of disruption in one of the optical cable paths, minimizing service disruptions and enhancing the reliability of the network.
The same technology has also been implemented in the inter-data center network located in Greater Jakarta with large capacity.
"Modernization with the latest technology is needed solely for the satisfaction of our loyal customers," said Mr. Irawan Delfi.
"Hopefully, with the addition of homepasses and network modernization, FiberStar will become one of the leading telecommunication network providers, contributing to the acceleration of internet development in Indonesia, spreading evenly and facilitating users in accessing information throughout the country," he concluded.
