he Oscars’ “ugly cousin”, The Golden Raspberry Awards, has announced that this year, it was creating a special category for Bruce Willis’ worst performance. The award show, which dedicates itself to recognizing the film industry's worst cinematic moments, said the Die Hard star has earned himself a special category for starring in no less than eight movies in 2021.
The category, “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie”, nominates American Siege, Apex, Cosmic Sin, Deadlock, Fortress, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Out of Death and Survive the Game, all released in 2021 and starring Willis.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, abbreviated humorously as The Razzie Awards, have served as the parody for annual award ceremonies. It traditionally takes place the day before the year’s Academy Awards. The 42nd Golden Raspberry Awards will take place on March 26, a day before the 94th Academy Awards. Netflix’s Diana: The Musical gets the most nominations in nine categories. Jared Leto was nominated for Worst Supporting Actor for his caricature portrayal of Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci.
The Razzie Awards was cofounded by University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) film graduate John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy and has run for four decades. The awardees are given statuettes of a golf ball-sized raspberry atop a Super 8mm film reel spray-painted gold. The award’s namesake, the English term of “blowing a raspberry”, is used in its irreverent sense. The foundation says the award “encourages well-known filmmakers and top-notch performers to own their bad".
To this day, Sylvester Stallone is the most-awarded actor ever with 10 awards won, while Madonna is the most-awarded actress with nine awards.
