he Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency has stated that throughout September to November, Indonesia will be entering a transition period from dry to rainy season. The transition period often affects people’s health because of the extreme changes in temperature as quoted by Tempo.co.

To survive the transition period between the seasons, US nutritionist Farah Fahad recommends five superfoods to help improve your immune system.

Pumpkins

The most common virus in the transition period is the common cold. Consuming pumpkins that are rich in vitamin C will help you improve the body’s immune system. The high level of vitamin A in pumpkins is also considered beneficial. “Vitamin A speeds up skin renewal as it produces collagen,” Farah suggests.

Brussel sprouts

Brussel sprouts contain sulfur, which helps eliminate toxins from other food or the environment. It is also rich in vitamin K and various minerals that can improve brain and nerve function.

Apples

Red apples contain an antioxidant called quercetin that can improve the body’s immune system. Apples are also known to be high in soluble and non-soluble fibers that help with the digestive system.

Sweet potatoes

Apart from complex carbs, sweet potatoes also offer potassium and other beneficial elements. “Electrolytes, calium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium will help balance out water retention, muscle contraction and the heart function,” Farah suggests.

Daikon

Daikon offers energy-giving nutrition including folate as well as vitamins B6 and B5 which are important for energy production and metabolism. (asw)
