etting a good night’s sleep is important, as that is when our bodies rest and recharge. But not everyone can fall asleep easily.

If you frequently toss and turn in bed, you might want to try this US Army technique.

According to The Independent, the US Army has a not-so secret trick to falling asleep on the battlefield.

Published in Lloyd Bud Winter's Relax and Win: Championship Performance, this technique can apparently help you fall asleep in two minutes flat, and reportedly worked for 96 percent of the people who tried them after six weeks of practice.

The technique

1. The first thing you need to do is to relax all the muscles in your face, including your tongue (one of the strongest muscles in the human body), jaws and the muscles around your eyes.

2. Then, try to drop your shoulders as far down as they’ll go. Continue with your upper and lower arm, one side at a time.

3. Next, breathe out and relax your chest.

4. Now, try to relax your legs, starting from your thighs downward.

5. Finally, spend 10 seconds clearing your mind by doing one of the following:

  • Imagine you’re lying in a canoe on a calm lake, with a clear blue sky above you;
  • Imagine you’re lying in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room; or
  • Tell yourself, “don’t think, don’t think...”. (jes/kes)
