AKARTA: Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said a group of South Korean companies, the Hanwha Corporation, would invest billions of US dollars in six sectors in Indonesia.
“They are really serious about investing in the finance, renewable energy, petrochemical, coal mining, electric car and tourism sectors,” Hatta said at his office on Tuesday.
“Investment in petrochemicals alone could reach between $3 billion to $5 billion, while investment in tourism could reach $1 billion to $2 billion.”
However, Hatta could not specify when Hanwha, which had 52 subsidiaries, would realize its plan. “They will study Indonesian industry data and conditions thoroughly. But investment in the finance sector could [start] in 2011,” he said.
Hanwha currently has a representative office in Jakarta, according to its official website. — JP
