AKARTA: The Jakarta administration says that the central government is yet to procure for them devices to be used in the distribution of electronic identity cards (e-ID) slated for next month.
“We have yet to receive computers, cameras and fingerprint scanners from the Home Ministry. They said it would be ready next week,” Civil Registration Agency head Purba Hutapea told reporters on Tuesday.
Purba said that the agency had registered a total of 7.49 million people eligible for the e-ID, but that it would not notify them until it had confirmation of the delivery of the equipment.
“Our staff are ready to start the e-ID distribution, we are still waiting for news from the central government,” he said.
In the distribution of the e-ID, residents will receive invitations to go to subdistrict offices to provide basic information about them, which will be relayed to the Home Ministry database to be confirmed and validated.
The nation-wide distribution, involving 197 regencies and municipalities out of a total of 497, is expected to begin Aug. 1 and wrap up in late November.
