AKARTA: A mysterious car caused commotion in front of the Al-Hidayah mosque in Bogor, West Java, after residents spotted an object that appeared to be a gun inside.

Residents became suspicious because the car had been parked in the same spot for two days. They reported it to the police. The police subsequently circled the car with police lines while residents watched.

Because there was an object that appeared to be a gun inside, the police decided to call in the bomb squad to open the car by blasting its windows.

“It was only an air gun,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said, as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Anton also said that the car owner, a resident of Ciputat, South Tangerang, had been located. “The owner said that the car had broken down,” he said.
