OGOR: The Bogor District Court on Tuesday sentenced Selly Yustiawati to 11 months in prison for fraud, one month shorter than state prosecutors had sought.
Selly, 26, tricked her victims out of hundreds of thousands to millions of rupiah each, with the promise that they would profit from business ventures, which turned out to be fake.
Presiding judge Aroziduhu Waruwu said a mitigating factor in the sentencing was the fact that she was a young single parent.
“However, she also refused to admit to her crimes despite all the evidence,” the judge said when reading out the sentence.
Ramdhan Alamsyah, Selly’s lawyer, said he would consider filing an appeal.
