AKARTA: The Police in East Jakarta are investigating seven women who were locked inside private homes in Pondok Kelapa who are thought to be illegal migrant workers.

“We want to gather information to determine if criminal activity has taken place regarding their captivity,” head of the East Jakarta Police’s women and children protection unit, First Insp. Endang, said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Monday. The police are holding the women at an undisclosed location.

Endang said investigators suspected that the house belonged to an unlicensed worker agency. She said suspects could face criminal charges.
