ational Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) head Syamsul Maarif said on Tuesday that the development of a master plan to reduce tsunami disaster risks from Sabang to Merauke would cost Rp 15 trillion (US$15.4 million).
'Ideally, the development of Indonesia's disaster risk reduction master plan would cost around Rp 15 trillion and this year, a Rp 1 trillion budget has been decided for the master plan but we are still waiting for approval from the House of Representatives,' said Syamsul in Padang as quoted by Antara news agency.
During his visit to West Sumatra, the BNPB head opened the Table Top Exercise (TTX) Mentawai Megathrust 2013, scheduled to take place from April 22 until April 25.
He is scheduled to inaugurate a disaster mitigation bridge in West Pasaman on Tuesday.
Syamsul said that the tsunami master plan consisted of four major components including strengthening the early warning system; temporary shelters development and improvement; enhancing capacity on disaster risk reduction readiness; and developing independency in dealing with disasters.(nai/ebf)
