eavy rains that drenched Pagaralam, South Sumatra, since Saturday night have caused several landslides, which damaged dozens of houses in Dempo Makmur subdistrict, North Pagaralam district.

'€œThe landslides happened along the road in the Antan 8 tourist site and residential areas of Dempo Makmur,'€ Dian, a resident, said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head, Herawadi, said that the areas were prone to landslides as most of the forests in the area had been cleared to make way for tea plantations.

'€œWe are still identifying damaged houses and buildings in the areas,'€ Herawadi said, confirming that no fatalities were recorded as a result of the landslides.
