heNational Intelligence Agency (BIN) has returned 10 hectares of land to theBatam Free Trade Zone Authority (BPK FTZ) that were previously acquired to becomethe campus of the International School of Intelligence during former presidentMegawati Soekarnoputri's term.

Construction at the site came to a halt after Megawati was replaced by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, leaving only an incomplete three-story building that has now been demolished.

"BIN returned the land, through a foundation that was developing the school, to the BPK FTZ around the end of 2013. After they returned it, the building that had already been built was immediately torn down and destroyed by BIN itself," BPK FTZ spokesman Dwi Djoko Wiwoho said on Tuesday.

The construction of the school was inaugurated by then-president Megawati in an event attended by then-BIN chief Hendropriyono on July 9, 2003, and was originally scheduled to be completed in 10 months.

The University of Indonesia was also previously cooperating with BIN to develop a curriculum for the school, which would have catered to people wanting to earn a graduate degree in the intelligence field. (fss)
