lag carrier Garuda Indonesia on Wednesday launched three new routes from its hub in Makassar, South Sulawesi, to enhance air connectivity in eastern Indonesia.
The three routes linked Makassar, South Sulawesi with Luwuk, Central Sulawesi; Bima, West Nusa Tenggara; and Mamuju, West Sulawesi. All routes fly one plane per day and use the French-Italian turboprop aircraft, Avions Transport Regional ATR 72-600, each of which has a total capacity of 70 passengers.
"By opening access to eastern regions, we are helping the government develop the regional economy At the same time, the opening of these three new routes is a response to increased travel demand from the market in Makassar," Garuda sales and marketing director Erik Meijer said in a statement on Wednesday made available to The Jakarta Post.
Previously, on May 1, the airline opened a number of routes connecting hubs outside Jakarta with major cities in the country, using its Canadian aircraft, the Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen.
The routes were Medan to Surabaya, Denpasar to Palembang, Makassar to Yogyakarta and Surabaya to Ambon. (nfo)
