resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the National Police and the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to put aside their "sectoral egos" on Wednesday amid efforts to improve synergy between the three institutions following rivalry between the KPK and the police.'۬'۬

Jokowi summoned interim KPK chairman Taufiqurrahman Ruki, National Police deputy chief Badrodin Haiti, who is now in charge of police chief tasks, and Attorney General M. Prasetyo to a closed-door meeting at Merdeka Palace on Wednesday.'۬'۬

"I also asked the KPK and ordered the AGO and the police not to [let] 'sectoral egos' [take control]," Jokowi said after the meeting. "[The three] must support each other and build public trust so that they can work in accordance with public expectations."'۬'۬

Jokowi also told the three institutions "to truly be serious in handling corruption cases" and later highlighted the importance of prioritizing prevention efforts.'۬'۬

"And, if it indeed constitutes misconduct and a crime, act firmly," he added. "And of course, we all should make corruption a common enemy which threatens the progress and development of our nation."'۬'۬

Jokowi also reminded the three law enforcement institutions to pay attention to possible corruption caused by illegal logging, illegal fishing and illegal mining. (***)(++++)
