A

hangar under construction at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, collapsed on Monday, killing five and injuring 14 others.

Two of the five victims died on the spot, where workers were completing the hangar'€™s 25-meter-high roof.

One of the injured workers, Yakob Jumair Dajo, 34, said that the workers felt a tremor moments before the incident, but they went on working. '€œI did not fall to the ground because I was holding onto a rope,'€ he said, adding that some 10 workers fell to the ground.

The construction of the hangar began last year, with 50 to 60 workers present, and was set to be completed this year.

Sultan Hasanuddin Airport spokesman Tamar Jaya said the airport authority would evaluate the construction project. '€œWe have an internal team [for the evaluation].'€

Two companies are involved in the project, namely PT Lience Romauli Raya and PT Nur Jaya Nusantara.

Maros Police chief Adj. Comr. Hotman Sirait said police would investigate the case.(+++)
