Petralite will not mean an end to Premium, promises Pertamina

S

tate oil and gas company Pertamina says the new fuel product Petralite, or RON 90, which is to be launched in May, will not replace the current Premium.

'€œInformation stated in the media is not correct, that Pertalite will mean Premium will vanish. Premium will still be available, in line with government and market policies,'€ Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto said, as quoted by Antara, during a meeting at the House of Representatives'€™ Commission VII overseeing energy in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said high compression machines of certain types of cars and motorcycles needed a fuel product with a higher specification of registered octane number (RON) than Premium'€™s specification of RON 88.

Dwi said Petralite would be an alternative fuel with a quality below that of Pertamax but higher than Premium.

He said Pertamina had yet to decide the price range of the new product.

'€œWe will discuss it, but its price will definitely be higher than Premium and lower than Pertamax,'€ said Dwi.

The new fuel variant is hoped to reduce Premium imports and boost the use of better quality, more environmentally friendly fuel. The launch of Pertalite is also expected to boost the capacity of Indonesia'€™s refineries to produce better quality products. (ebf)(+++)
