he Jakarta administration has sealed 30 low-cost apartments (rusunawa) in the Marunda rusunawa compound in North Jakarta as a result of tenants abusing their leases.
Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said on Monday that he had received reports of several tenants in the Marunda rusunawa compound attempting to rent out their apartments to other people despite it being prohibited.
"It is prohibited to sublet apartments. If a tenant wants to move out, then he or she should return his or her apartment to the city administration. Instead, several tenants were found to have moved out and sublet their apartments. We therefore have sealed those 30 apartments to investigate the matter," Ahok told reporters at City Hall. (ebf)
