28-year-old woman, identified only as IAD, was apprehended on Friday by Depok Police for allegedly operating an illegal medical practice at a clinic in Citayam, Depok, West Java.
The Depok Police's criminal unit chief, Comr. Teguh Nugroho, said that IAD had allegedly opened a clinic and acted as a general practitioner for one year in Citayam. She also opened a clinic in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java.
'She actually did not have any medical degree,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Teguh said the illegal practice was revealed after medical doctors in the neighborhood who met her at the clinic became suspicious.
'The Indonesian Doctors Association's [IDI] Depok chapter filed a report with us. We then investigated the case,' he said.
He said IAD was obsessed with becoming a doctor.
'She studied medicine for eight semesters, but then dropped out,' he said, adding that she looked for patients through social media.
He said the police had not found any patients who had become victims so far, but they would investigate the case further.
