The South Jakarta District Court ordered the prosecutors and lawyers of 22-year-old Christopher Daniel Sjarief to present their witnesses and experts after it rejected the defendant's response to an indictment filed by lawyers.
The panel of the judges, chaired by Made Sutrisna, said Monday the defense statement delivered by Christopher's lawyer could not be accepted as the panel was certain the prosecutor's indictment was in accordance with the Criminal Code.
'In their defense, the lawyers said the indictment letter was inconsistent and failed to provide a clear explanation on the incident. We don't agree with the argument and ordered the trial to proceed,' Made said.
Separately after the hearing, prosecutor Agus Kurniawan said he was ready to continue the trial and would present his first witness on Thursday. 'I will discuss my list of witnesses and experts with the prosecution team first, but our first witness will be ready on Thursday,' he said.
On Jan. 20 this year, Christopher lost control of an SUV he was driving on Jl. Sultan Iskandar Muda in South Jakarta, colliding with six motorcycles and two cars on the congested street. The accident killed four people, including a policeman, and injured four others.
