he Jakarta administration aims to completely replace orange-colored petrol-fueled bajaj (auto rickshaws) with blue-colored gas-fueled bajaj by the end of 2016.
Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that the city administration facilitated orange bajaj drivers who wished to replace their vehicles with the blue bajaj by providing credit through city-owned lender Bank DKI. The city, he said, would also help bajaj drivers to import the blue bajaj from India.
'The city administration will help bajaj drivers as long as they have ownership documents and are willing to destroy the red bajaj,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Monday.
He said that he had tasked the Transportation Agency with speeding up the replacements. The city, Ahok went on, would also provide mobile refueling units (MRU) at municipal offices to facilitate blue bajaj drivers refueling their vehicles, as natural gas refueling stations for bajaj are scarce in Jakarta.
