he police are still investigating a fire that razed the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas Anak) building in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, over the weekend.
East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Umar Farouq, who visited the fire scene on Monday, said that the investigation was being carried out to determine its cause.
He said the police have already questioned several eyewitnesses and conducted a forensic examination.
He called on anyone who had information on the fire to report it to the police and help them investigate the incident.
'All information (from the public) on the fire will be received to help the investigation,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
The Komnas Anak building caught fire on Saturday evening, annihilating almost all files and documents and most of the archives inside.
Many have speculated that the fire had something to do with the commission's investigation into the Engeline case in Denpasar, Bali.
Asked to comment on the possibility that the Engeline case was connected, Umar said the police would take harsh actions against anyone behind the fire.
'Whoever is behind the fire, if it is linked to the Engeline case, will be processed in accordance with the law,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Komnas Anak Chairman Ariest Merdeka Sirait declined to speculate about the fire and said his agency would entrust the case to the police for a thorough investigation.
However, he said that if the fire was linked to the Engeline case, it would not reach the target because he himself has kept all documents relating to the commission's investigation into the murder. (rms)(++++)
