he construction of a light rapid transit (LRT) system for the 2018 Asian Games is now 20 percent complete following the installation of a box girder segment in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Monday, an executive has said.
The project is made up of three phases, all of which are being handled by city-owned PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), with state-owned infrastructure company PT Wijaya Karya as its main contractor.
“The initial phase has been completed. The second one is infrastructure construction, while the next is rolling stock procurement,” said Satya Heragandhi, PT Jakpro president director, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The LRT system when completed will be a 24-kilometer loop line connecting Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta and Dukuh Atas in Central Jakarta.
The first phase of the project will cover 6 kilometers and four stations: BritAma Arena in Kelapa Gading; Pulomas horse racing track and Rawamangun Velodrome, both in East Jakarta; and Kelapa Gading as the depot.
The LRT is scheduled to be completed before the next year’s Asian Games, which will be held in both the capital and Palembang, South Sumatra. (kuk)
