The police seized at least 19,000 ecstasy pills at a popular nightclub in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.

Bali Police narcotics deputy director Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudjarwoko said four people were arrested at the Akasaka Karaoke and Music Club in a joint operation between the National Police and the Bali Police narcotics squad. At least 22 personnel from the narcotics squad raided the nightclub at around 3 p.m. on Monday.

“They had already been targeted by the police. They are part of a drug syndicate that supplies drugs to Bali,” Sudjarwoko alleged to reporters.

He said that police officers tracked suspects from Jakarta who stopped over in Surabaya before heading to Bali. “When they arrived in Bali, they went straight to the nightclub,” Sudjarwoko said.

Police arrested the suspects after they allegedly handed over the drugs to the manager of the club, identified only as WI.

“No doubt that the manager knows about the drugs as he was the one who received the drugs,” Sudjarwoko alleged, adding that the police were conducting further investigations to identify others involved in the drug ring.

The nightclub was temporarily closed down on Monday night and a police line was set up around the club.
