ublicly listed glassmaker Asahimas Flat Glass (AMFG) plans to move its factory from Ancol, North Jakarta, to Cikampek, West Java, its president director has announced.
AMFG president director Takeo Takei said the factory had to be moved because Ancol could no longer be used as an industrial area.
“Our current production in Ancol is 500 tons of glass per day. In the spring of 2019, we will be starting new plants with a capacity of 700 tons per day, so [that’s a] 40 percent increase,” he said after meeting Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto at the ministry on Monday.

The CEO of parent company Asahi Glass Co Ltd., Takuya Shimamura, who joined the meeting, said the investment was part of Asahi’s long-term investment commitment in Indonesia, worth US$1.5 billion in the past four years.
About $1 billion of the investment was used to complete a new caustic soda factory last year in Cilegon, Banten, under PT Asahimas Chemical.
AMFG's sales increased in 2016 by 2.7 percent to Rp 3.7 trillion (US$277.5 million), while operating profit fell by 23.7 percent to Rp 260.4 billion. (bbn)
