T

he Indonesian U-22 soccer team outclassed the Philippines 3-0 in the second group match at the Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor, Malaysia, on Thursday. The win coincided with the 72nd anniversary of the country's Independence Day.

Septian David Maulana scored the opening goal just seven minutes after kickoff, thanks to a crossing by I Putu Gede.

The goal pumped up the young Indonesians’ fighting spirit to grow more aggressive in scoring, Antara reported.

Before the end of the first half, Muhammad Hargianto received a passing from Saddil Ramdani and kicked the ball inside the penalty box, going through Filipino goalie Ray Joseph.

The Philippines players were more defensive in the second half and only counter attacked, thanks to Jeremiah Borlongan and Javier Augustine Gayoso.

Saddil Ramdani widened the gap with his goal in the 59th minute.

The match ended with a 3-0 victory for Indonesia.

Indonesia earlier held nemesis Thailand to a 1-1 draw in the opener.

The national squad, coached by Luis Milla, is currently in second place in the group with four points, following Vietnam, which garnered two wins from two matches.

Indonesia is scheduled to face Timor Leste on Sunday.
