The Keris Woomera Exercise is the largest combined joint activities by the two countries' military under the Australia-Indonesia Defence Cooperation Agreement. 

The joint exercise, which started last week, came as newly inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto pledged closer ties with Russia on defence, in a bid to forge links with any country as part of Jakarta's long-held non-aligned foreign policy.

On Saturday, Prabowo met Chinese President Xi Jinping, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.

President Prabowo Subianto ended his state visit to China on Sunday and left directly for the United States as his administration seeks to maintain balanced ties with the two rival powers.

The Qantas flight, QF520, was bound for Brisbane and was circling for a "short period of time" before landing safely at Sydney Airport, Qantas Chief Pilot Captain Richard Tobiano said in the statement.

The 73-year-old ex-general's state visit will take place from Friday to Sunday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a statement.
